Some general comments regarding all concerts with the Belmont Ensemble
at St Martin-in-the-Fields
Summer dress for men at St Martin's is all-black (i.e. black, open-neck shirts and trousers). At other times of the year, dress for men is black tie (DJs, black bow-tie, black trousers). Dress for women is long black with discreet touches of red unless otherwise specified, though in summer, the detailed guidelines may be relaxed to allow bare legs, short sleeves and sandals. 'Summer' is at Peter Gilbert Dyson's discretion. Click here to download the detailed dress code: Current Dress Code
Please bring your black folder to all performances
All the repertoire is currently listed on the main concerts page so is not repeated here.
If you are coming along as an 'extra', or you are a choir member bringing an 'extra' with you, please can you check whether you/they are able to provide any music of their own (they may well have at least a Mozart Requiem, Vivaldi Gloria or Messiah - if not some of the smaller pieces) and advise Ann or Bob accordingly We do have a few spare black folders, but if any extra singers have a black folder of their own it's useful to bring that too. If we happen to have several guests on one evening we may not have quite enough to go round.
Please cn you also ensure that any extras have read the dress code!
General comments re services at St Andrew's and St James
Music lists for these are currently in preparation - watch this space
Rehearsals for 6.30pm services at St Andrews are at 5.30 for those who are able to make it. We realise not everyone is able to leave work that early, and for the services coming up we should be able to sing through the music at the preceding Tuesday rehearsal; however, it is useful to know if you are unlikely to make the rehearsal but will be there for the service.
Rehearsals for 10.30am services at St James are at 9.30. It is assumed that everyone can make this on time, unless there are severe transport delays or it's a weekend when the clocks go back or forward (when there's always someone who gets it wrong...!
Dress code for these services depends on whether the choir is visible to the audience while singing, or not. When we are visible, please follow the dress code for Church Services ( Current Dress Code ). Otherwise, any smart dress will do. Bear in mind that we are usually seen by the congregation at some point, either while going to the communion rail or over drinks afterwards, so please always come at least tidily dressed (no gardening clothes or trainers, please). As a guide, at St Andrew's we are in the gallery and out of sight, except for services such as 'Beating the Bounds', or the St Ann's Day service, which are held partly or wholly outside the church. At St James, we sing sometimes out of sight in the gallery, sometimes in sight in the choir stalls depending on what we are singing and what else is going on. Please follow the Performance and Rehearsal Details below to find out whether the formal or non-formal dress code applies to any specific service.
Please bring folders to St James in case we are on view downstairs |
